Write-a-Thon, Day 15: OSI – “Overt”

In addition to the Clarion Write-a-Thon, I’m also participating once again in the fun that is One Single Impression. If you enjoy poetry and awesomeness (and I know you do), why not pay them a visit?

And if you enjoy what you read here at Claire De Lunacy, PLEASE be sure to visit my Clarion Foundation Writer’s Page and make a donation!  Thanks!

The prompt this week over at One Single Impression is “overt.” Subtlety is not an art to which I have taken easily, but it certainly has its uses; that said, there’s something satisfying to the soul about overt action. We live in a society that requires all manner of dexterous social manipulation and machinations, and sometimes, I think, it’s nice just to let the affectations and calculations fall by the wayside and lay about with Sagittarean bluntness. With that in mind, I give you:

Overt

There may come a day
When instead of allowing
Others to simply

Shove…

Bump…

Disregard…

Judge…

Betray…

Abuse…

Belittle…

me

Under auspices
Of what we all like to call
“The Social Contract.”

I will refuse to

Shrug…

Smile…

Weep…

Surrender…

Defer…

Decline…

Collapse

I will turn my gaze
Full upon them, not in rage,
Or judgment, or wrath

But in simple and
honest declaration of
Honor and respect.

I will hold them there
With eyes full of sincere need
Til they, too, see me.
